I enjoy studying people and culture (and writing about them!). As a young child, I lived in a variety of locations in Texas and Louisiana. They weren't that far apart in miles, but the cultures were radically different. My teenage years were spent in the Piney Woods of East Texas; after graduation I attended several universities before returning to East Texas to achieve a bachelor's degree (double major) in behavioral sciences and chemistry. I now live near Dallas, Texas.
In 1997 I was diagnosed with Bipolar (BP), and later with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). Inpatient and outpatient therapy coupled with medication have allowed me to continue with a relatively normal life in spite of these challenges.
My experiences have been broad, and include extensive travel (Europe, China, Mediterranean and Middle East, and the U.S.), research in child development and cochlear implants, study of and practical experience with bipolar disorder and personality disorders, and homeschooling my two children. I began investing in stocks and mutual funds 15 years ago. In the past 4 years my interest has switched to day trading futures; I have been trading actively for 2 years with increasing success.
I have been writing professionally for three years and my topics have ranged from British castles to tornado classification to preventing self-injury. I have served as public health editor and weather editor for BellaOnline.com, and published many articles on Associated Content.
I look forward to writing about a variety of subjects on suite101.com!
